Knowing When It’s Time to Quit

newsletter articles Nov 28, 2025

Most people wait too long to leave a job.

We tell ourselves things will improve. We hold out for a raise, a new manager, or the next project that might finally make things better.

But sometimes, the healthiest and most strategic move you can make is to walk away. Leaving a job is not failure. It is a decision to stop surviving and start growing again.

Here are three signs it might be time to move on.

Three Signs It Might Be Time to Leave

1. You have stopped learning or growing

Every job should teach you something. If you are no longer being challenged, coached, or stretched, you are standing still.

Ask yourself:

  • When was the last time I learned a new skill?

  • Have I grown in the past year, or just repeated the same year?

If your role no longer offers room to develop, it might be time to find one that does.

2. The work is affecting your health or relationships

If your job is constantly draining you, keeping you up at night, or leaving you short-tempered with the people you care about, that is not sustainable.

No title or salary is worth your wellbeing. Burnout creeps up slowly, and by the time it becomes obvious, the damage is already done.

Work should challenge you, not consume you.

3. You no longer believe in what you are doing

When your values and your company’s values no longer align, it creates friction you can feel every day.

Ask:

  • Do I respect the leadership and how decisions are made?

  • Do I believe in the product, service, or mission I am supporting?

If the answer is no, staying will only drain motivation further.
